painting of elephants in Malawi
Elephants attended by cattle egrets on the Namweras road, Southern Malawi.

A watercolour by Roger Lee completed from sketches made whilst working as a Forest Biologist in Malawi.
This was commissioned as a present to commemorate a honeymoon spent by Lake Malawi thirty years ago.
The scene is quite typical of the area close to Lake Malawi's southern lakeshore with Baobab trees, Commiphora
woodland, Hyphaene palms and giant fig trees. The clearing in the foreground is a seasonally wet area known as a dambo.
Such areas eventually dry out in the dry season but remain damp long after the surroundings have become parched.
Dambos are excellent places to watch wildlife.
