Cattle would have been driven either to Dalwhinnie or towards what is now Rannoch Station to join one of the main drove routes which converged on Crieff and, later Falkirk. Droving dates from early times but the hey-day of the large droves began in 1766 in response to English traders coming to Scotland to satisfy market needs south of the border.
